Orsay Museum

No visit to Paris is complete without a trip to the Musée d'Orsay. This is a famous museum with an outstanding collection of beautiful paintings, works of art and sculpture. In Paris, it is considered one of the most important museums in the city.

Musée d'Orsay train station is actually converted into a museum. The architect, Victor Laloux, designed the building to the train station and completed in 1900 coincided with the Exposition Universelle of 1900. During the opening, the painter Edouard Détaille commented that the station will create a better museum. Around 1950, the building was used as a discontinued railway station, because the platform was found too short for modern trains. That should be lined up for demolition to make way for some other development to take place. However, President Giscard d'Estaing has turned into a museum. The building was redesigned by Italian architect Game Aulenti, who retained much of the original architecture, and the museum opened in 1986.
